Over the last few years, the Charlotte 49ers have been an up and down program under head coach Will Healy. There are rumblings that if 2022 is another disappointing season Healy may be gone. He is definitely on the hot seat, and while he has shown some things in his time leading the program, it has not been good times as of late.
The season wins total of 4.5 set by various NC sportsbooks needs to hit on the over probably by more than just a half-game if Healy wants to ensure his job security. The offense has been solid and has some strong pieces to build around. The defense was good at times last year but disappeared down the season’s home stretch.
Conference USA Championship Odds
The dream is technically alive for Charlotte to win the Conference USA title, but if that is going to happen it will take a monumental turn of fortune based on the 49ers’ lackluster FBS history.
The 5-7 overall record they had last year was their second best mark since rising to FBS status in 2015. The only time the 49ers won more than that, they went 7-6 in 2019. That season they had a 5-3 conference record, which is their best of all-time.
Charlotte will need to overachieve to win this season’s conference title, but the payout is nice if that happens and sports bettors checking college football odds at NC sportsbooks get in on it before the first game.

49ers 2022 Outlook
The 49ers offense should be good once again, especially with veteran quarterback Chris Reynolds returning for another year. Reynolds is a gamer in the aspects that he knows where to put the ball, is a willing runner, and often comes up with clutch plays. With his top three wide wide receivers back and top two rushers, he has plenty of weapons. Couple that with an offensive line that brings back four out of five starters and the 49er’s offense has the potential to be at the top of the conference this year.
The defense was flat-out bad last year, and to make matters worse, three out of the top four tacklers are gone. The hope is that the transfers that have come in are more boom than bust or else it could be another rough year for the Charlotte defense. The defense couldn’t be much worse than it was last year. A slight improvement would give the 49ers a chance to win a lot of games behind their prolific offense.

Betting Recommendation
If this betting line was adequately set at 5.5 games instead of 4.5, things get tricky. Yes, the 49ers should be able to win five games. Their offense will be one of the best in possibly the entire country. Even with the mediocre defense, the offense will be able to simply outscore quite a few of their opponents. If the defense shows some improvements, it is not crazy to think that seven to nine wins are possible, so take the over.
