Duke Blue Devils Futures Odds

While better known for its basketball program, Duke has been known to have strong football teams from time to time. They just haven’t had one recently, going 3-9 last season after losing their last eight games. The Blue Devils went 2-9 the year prior in 2020 and 5-7 in 2019. You have to go back to 2018 to find their last winning season when they went 8-5.

Duke’s recent track record makes it easy to see why it has the longest odds of any ACC team to win the conference championship, and most sportsbooks have the Blue Devils’ season wins total at 3 or 3.5.

Sports fans hope one day soon they’ll be able to bet on Duke football games with North Carolina betting apps, but for now, the only options for sports wagering in the state are at two retail sportsbooks in the western part of the state.

Blue Devils 2022 Outlook

Talent-wise Duke should be improved this upcoming season and have several reasons for optimism. Still, the Blue Devils have a long way to go based on the recent seasons. This first season may not be pretty with a new head coach, though, in Mike Elko. The Blue Devils have nowhere to go but up.

The offense has a great starting point in a solid offensive line that is something the Blue Devils should be able to build around. Last season, the Duke offensive line paved the way for a 1,200-yard rusher and returns four out of five starters.

Speaking of nowhere to go but up, the Blue Devils’ defense has to be better this year because it cannot get any worse than last year. Elko is a defensive guy, and his fingerprints should be all over this defense.

The Blue Devils will likely run a 4-2-5 and have several solid players to build around up front. Defense tackle DeWayne Carters is a veteran and has two very talented linebackers in Shaka Heyward and Dorian Mausi, who had 157 combined tackles last year playing behind him.

Follow that with two potential transfer starters — one at cornerback and one at safety — and the defense at least looks better on paper than it did a year ago. On paper, last year Duke ranked 130 out of 130 teams in total defense.

Betting Recommendation

I like the Blue Devils on the Over of 3 or 3.5 games this season. For starters, the Blue Devils have some early games that should be cakewalks and another three or four that should be toss-ups.

Take the FanDuel line at over 3.5 with +165 odds for the best value. That doesn’t mean you should also wager on Duke to win the ACC. Who cares about the value, stay far away because it is not happening.
