For the first time this season, fans of the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels can bet on basketball. Legal sports betting in North Carolina will launch on March 11, two days after these two schools meet in their regular season finale. This means that betting on a Duke vs. UNC basketball game in the regular season is out.
Duke and UNC finish their ACC regular season on March 9 with a rematch in Durham, two days before the launch of online sports betting in North Carolina.
Unless North Carolina and Duke meet in the ACC Tournament or March Madness, fans will not be able to bet on a UNC vs. Duke game this season.
It’s college basketball’s fiercest rivalry. It’s blue blood versus blue blood, two of the most prestigious programs in college hoops. Duke vs. North Carolina has provided many of the sport’s greatest moments.
Betting on the Tar Heels and Blue Devils in tournament play
The ACC Conference Tournament commences on March 12. Sports betting will be live by then, and customers in NC will be able to download sportsbook apps, read the College basketball odds and place action on the games.
If Duke and UNC meet in the ACC tournament, you can wager on the game: the moneyline, point spread, over/under, and game props like which team wins the first half, second half, and more. College player prop bets will be permitted in North Carolina as well, though this could change.
This season, the Blue Devils and Tar Heels rank among the top 10 nationally. North Carolina won the Feb. 3 matchup in Chapel Hill 93-84. This put Duke at No. 9, and the Tar Heels at No. 3.
Booth schools are shoo-ins for the NCAA Tournament, potentially as high very seeds. Round one of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament begins with the play-in games on March 19. The first full round of games on March 21-22. Hoops fans will be able to wager on those games and the rest of the tournament. The national title game takes place on April 8 in Glendale, Arizona.
